Terms

It's just occurred to me as I was writing my review for the Death Note movie: I haven't really given any definition of the standard terms used in anime. So, for those people who might not be familiar with the genre, here are a list of words you'll likely be seeing a lot here.

There are other words that should be learned (such as shoujo and shounen), but I doubt I'll be using them here. I haven't so far.

Manga - Japanese comic books, covering all age groups. This is usually where anime begins.
Anime - Japanese animation (based on the Japanese pronunciation of animation). Has a distinct style.
Seiyuu - A Japanese voice actor. They record differently in Japan, so the feel of the show can really change depending on what language you watch it in.
VA - Voice Actor. The term typically used to refer to English-speaking (or non-Japanese speaking) voice actors in anime.
Sub - Subtitles. Anime in which the original dialogue, Japanese, is preserved with translations at the bottom of the screen.
Dub - The rerecording of the audio track of an anime into the language of whatever country happens to be watching it. Often sacrifices direct translation in order to match up with the syllables spoken in the original version.
JYB - Johnny Yong Bosch. I'm lazy and don't feel like typing his whole name out all the time.

Voice actors that tend to pop up a lot (in particular the first three, as they play the main characters of two of the anime I'm reviewing):

Yuri Lowenthal - Suzaku (CG), Simon (GL), Touya (Mori)
Michelle Ruff - Euphemia (CG), Yoko (GL)
Liam O'Brien - Lloyd (CG), Guinble (GL)
Steven Jay Blum - Toudou (CG), Leeron (GL)
